When God and Obamacare Collide

Health Insurance.  You can't afford to live with it, and you get fined if you don't have it. At least in Massachusetts...  And soon everywhere else, too...

Actually, I'm not here to make comments on healthcare in America.  I'm here to tell you a remarkable story about how God showed up in our search for healthcare.

So Heather and I have been paying for COBRA coverage. For those of you who don't know, this is very expensive. So as soon as we moved to MA we set about finding coverage of our own (plus you are required to have insurance in MA or else pay a fine).  First week in January, I mailed in our application.  I didn't want to wait long because every month that went by would cost us another big chunk of money.

February 4th.  That is the date I had to tell Mark whether we wanted COBRA coverage for another month and pay the money for it.  So on Friday, February 1st I call the hotline to see what the status of our application is.  Guess what?  "No application received."  AND "Go ahead and submit another one because the processing time is 45 days."  So that means we have to pay at least two more big chunks of cash.  At this point I'm about to go off on someone, but there's no use.

My wife in her wisdom says, "call back and talk to someone else."  I think this is ridiculous, but I have enough sense to do what my wife tells me.  The new guy says, "Yeah, your application hasn't been received. But I'll put a rush order on it.  At least call back Tuesday to check."  I think to myself why am I calling back to check on a rush order of an application THAT YOU DON'T HAVE!? but all I say is, "ok. thank you for the help."

I call back February 4th.  Not only have they "found" the application.  But all three of us are approved for health insurance!  What incredible timing God has.  And that's only the tip of the iceberg.  On Friday of that week we had to take Jude in to the emergency room because of a fever of 104 that wouldn't break.  Thank God, he is ok now, but our bills are covered because of God's perfect timing.
